The Khulna Shipyard (KSY) has completed construction of 6 High Speed Boats (Large) for the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
Designed by Icarus Marine of South Africa, the 15.4 m long boats have a breadth of 4.1 m and a depth of 2.1 m. They are powered by two Volvo Penta 550 hp engines.
A total complement of 12 personnel can be carried on the boats with 4 bunks and one HMG station.
KSY conducted sea trials for one of the HSBs earlier today.
It may be mentioned, the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Navy received 20 new Defender class high speed boats from the US. The watercraft were officially handed over on 9 September by the US Embassy in Dhaka. The latest tranche from the US is valued at $7.5 million.
