As an Indian I feel Bangladesh is our closest neighbour not just physically but politically also. Its economy is only second to India's own and its developing rapidly in to an important powerhouse economy of Asia. I'd like the Indian government itself to design a pro-active foreign policy that recognises the greatness of Bangladesh as an important if not equal partner of India in security, defence, economic, political, cultural cooperations. We are connected in history, let us grow stronger together to harness our strengths, fight our threats together.

PM to leave for Italy on Feb 4 Published: February 01, 2020 17:46:24 Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to leave Dhaka for Rome on February 4 on a four-day bilateral official visit to Italy at the invitation of her Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte. During the visit, the prime minister will hold bilateral meeting with her Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte on February 5, a source at the Prime Minister’s office said. A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the premier and her entourage members will take off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) for Italian capital of Rome in the morning on February 4. The flight is scheduled to land at Fiumicino Airport, Rome at 4:15 pm local time where Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy Abdus Sobhan Sikder will receive the premier. After the reception at the airport, a ceremonial motorcade will escort the Bangladesh prime minister to Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa, where she will be staying during her visit to the Italian capital. Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to join a community event at Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa in the evening the same day. On February 5, she will inaugurate the Chancery Building of Bangladesh Embassy in Rome in Via Dell’Antartide area in the morning. In the afternoon, the prime minister will hold bilateral talks with Italian premier Giuseppe Conte and join an official lunch at Palazzo Chigi, the official residence of the Italian prime minister. The two leaders, in their summit meeting, are expected to discuss the whole range of bilateral issues as well as important regional and international matters of common concern. Later, senior officials of the Italian business companies are expected to call on the Bangladesh prime minister at the meeting room of her place of residence. The prime minister will then attend a dinner to be hosted by the Bangladesh ambassador to Italy at Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa. On February 6, Sheikh Hasina will have an audience with Pope Francis in the morning. Then the prime minister will depart Rome for the Italian city of Milan by train at 12:50 pm and reach there at 4 pm local time. She will stay at Excelsior Hotel Gallia during the visit to Milan, the source said. On February 7, the prime minister will leave Milan Malpensa International Airport for home by an Emirates flight at 1:40 pm local time, reports BSS. will reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka at 8:10 am Bangladesh time on February 8 via Dubai. Ministry sources said they are considering the visit as highly important as it involves the search for fresh investments by Italian entrepreneurs in Bangladesh, export of more items to Italy as well as seeking areas to export skilled manpower. Italy is one of the largest trading partners of Bangladesh and more than 200,000 Bangladeshis live there, reports BSS.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visiting Italy in February and there’s a slight possibility of signing DEFENCE DEAL প্রধানমন্ত্রীর ইতালি সফর ফেব্রুয়ারিতে, সম্পর্ক জোরদারের বার্তা রাহীদ এজাজ, ঢাকা প্রকাশ: ২২ ঘন্টা ২ মিনিট আগে আপডেট: ২৮ জানুয়ারি ২০২০, ১৪:৫৪ ইউরোপের সঙ্গে সম্পর্ক জোরদারের অংশ হিসেবে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা আগামী ফেব্রুয়ারি মাসের শুরুতে প্রথম দ্বিপক্ষীয় সফরে ইতালি যাচ্ছেন। সরকার ইউরোপের দেশগুলোর সঙ্গে রাজনৈতিক ও অর্থনৈতিক সহযোগিতা বাড়াতে জোর দিচ্ছে। পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের কর্মকর্তারা সম্প্রতি প্রথম আলোকে জানান, ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়নের (ইইউ) গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সদস্যরাষ্ট্র ইতালিতে বছরের প্রথম দ্বিপক্ষীয় সফরে গিয়ে প্রধানমন্ত্রী রাজনৈতিক বার্তা দেবেন বলে তাঁদের মত। প্রায় দুই দশকের মধ্যে বাংলাদেশের কোনো প্রধানমন্ত্রী এই প্রথম দ্বিপক্ষীয় সফরে ইতালি যাচ্ছেন। ওই সফরে ব্যবসা, বিনিয়োগের পাশাপাশি ইতালিতে দক্ষ কর্মী পাঠানোর বিষয়ে বাংলাদেশ গুরুত্ব দিচ্ছে। আর ইতালি বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে প্রতিরক্ষা চুক্তি সই ও জ্বালানি খাতে বিনিয়োগে আগ্রহ দেখিয়ে আসছে। বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে ইউরোপের সম্পর্কোন্নয়নের অংশ হিসেবে ওই অঞ্চলের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কয়েকটি দেশের নেতাদের এ বছর বাংলাদেশ সফরেরও কথা রয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছেন কূটনীতিকেরা। তাঁরা বলেছেন, এরই মধ্যে আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হয়েছে জার্মান চ্যান্সেলর আঙ্গেলা ম্যার্কেল ও ফ্রান্সের প্রেসিডেন্ট এমানুয়েল মাখোঁকে। ইতালি সফরের অগ্রাধিকার রোমে বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসে খোঁজ নিয়ে জানা গেছে, ৪ ফেব্রুয়ারি প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার ইতালিতে যাওয়ার প্রাথমিক পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে। কূটনৈতিক সূত্রে জানা গেছে, ইতালিতে মূলত তৈরি পোশাক, হোম টেক্সটাইল, মাছ, পাট ও পাটজাত পণ্য এবং চামড়া ও চামড়াজাত পণ্য রপ্তানি করে আসছে বাংলাদেশ। ২০১৭-১৮ অর্থবছরে ইতালিতে দেড় শ কোটি ডলারের পণ্য রপ্তানি করা হয়েছে। আর একই সময়ে ইতালি থেকে বাংলাদেশের আমদানির পরিমাণ ৭২ কোটি ডলার। ইতালিতে বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাস সূত্রে জানা গেছে, ইউরোপের অন্যতম বৃহৎ গ্যাস ও তেল উৎপাদনকারী প্রতিষ্ঠান ইএনআই সম্প্রতি বাংলাদেশে বিনিয়োগের আগ্রহ দেখিয়েছে। প্রতিষ্ঠানটির একটি উচ্চপর্যায়ের প্রতিনিধিদল এরই মধ্যে বাংলাদেশ সফর করে এ নিয়ে আলোচনা করেছে। ব্যবসা–বিনিয়োগের পাশাপাশি বাংলাদেশ থেকে দক্ষ কর্মী পাঠানোর বিষয়টি আলোচনায় আসতে পারে। ইতালির সরকারি পরিসংখ্যান অনুযায়ী, দেশটিতে এখন ১ লাখ ৪০ হাজার বাংলাদেশি রয়েছে। বাংলাদেশের কর্মকর্তাদের মতে, যুক্তরাজ্যের পর ইউরোপের দেশগুলোর মধ্যে ইতালিতে সবচেয়ে বেশিসংখ্যক বাংলাদেশি রয়েছে। তাদের একটি উল্লেখযোগ্যসংখ্যক বাংলাদেশি ইতালিতে গেছে অবৈধ পথে। পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের এক কর্মকর্তা জানান, ইতালিতে দক্ষ কর্মীর চাহিদা আছে। ইউরোপ থেকে অবৈধ হয়ে পড়া বাংলাদেশিদের ফেরত আনার জন্য বাংলাদেশ ইইউর সঙ্গে চুক্তি করেছে। চুক্তি অনুযায়ী ফিরে আসা লোকজনের পুনর্বাসন ও প্রশিক্ষণে সহায়তা দিচ্ছে ইতালি। বাংলাদেশ বৈধ পথে ইতালিতে কর্মী পাঠাতে চায়। প্রতিরক্ষা সহযোগিতা ইইউর অন্য দেশগুলোর মতো ইতালিও বিভিন্ন দেশের সঙ্গে প্রতিরক্ষা সহযোগিতা গড়ে তুলতে মনোযোগ দিচ্ছে। দেশটি সম্প্রতি বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে প্রতিরক্ষা চুক্তি সই করতে বিশেষ আগ্রহ দেখিয়ে আসছে। প্রধানমন্ত্রীর ইতালি সফরে প্রতিরক্ষা চুক্তির সম্ভাবনার বিষয়ে জানতে চাইলে নাম প্রকাশ না করার শর্তে এক জ্যেষ্ঠ কর্মকর্তা প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ফেব্রুয়ারিতে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর রোম সফরে প্রতিরক্ষা সহযোগিতার বিষয়ে আলোচনা হতে পারে। তবে এ সফরেই প্রতিরক্ষা চুক্তি সইয়ের সম্ভাবনা কম। ইউরোপের সঙ্গে বাংলাদেশের সম্পর্কের বিষয়ে জানতে চাইলে পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী এ কে আব্দুল মোমেন সম্প্রতি প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, গত বছর জুলাইয়ে লন্ডনে ইউরোপের রাষ্ট্রদূতদের সম্মেলনে প্রধানমন্ত্রী ওই অঞ্চলের দেশগুলোর সঙ্গে সম্পর্ক জোরদারের নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন। ওই অঞ্চলের দেশগুলোর সঙ্গে ব্যবসা বাড়ানো, বিনিয়োগ আনার মতো বিষয়গুলোতে অগ্রাধিকার দেওয়া হবে। এরই ধারাবাহিকতায় প্রধানমন্ত্রী চলতি বছর প্রথম দ্বিপক্ষীয় সফরে ইতালি যাচ্ছেন। LINK: https://www.prothomalo.com/amp/bangladesh/article/1636754/
