The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is participating in the winter exercises alongside the Bangladesh Army for the first time with 4,000 personnel or 6 battalions in the paramilitary force’s 225 year history.
BGB hopes to increase its war fighting capabilities and improve morale in the ranks through this joint field training exercise being held at Kishoreganj. Having a force of 70,000 personnel the BGB is responsible protecting Bangladesh’s land and riverine frontiers with India and Myanmar. It is experiencing expansion of its capabilities through the introduction of Mi-171E helicopters, Corsar anti-tank guided missile systems, advanced surveillance equipment and communications relays. The force has also significantly increased its border intelligence apparatus to ensure effective management of border areas.
