The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will establish 73 more composite modern Border Observation Outpost (BOP) along the border with India and Myanmar to further enhance security.
The project will be implemented in BGB’s Rangpur, Jashore, Sarail, Chattogram and Ramu regions. These include construction of 24 completely new BOPs as well as redevelopment of 49 BOPs on existing sites.
At present there are 667 BOPs guarding 4,427 km of the international boundary with India and Myanmar to curb smuggling, human trafficking, narcotics and transnational crimes.
Regular operational activities are conducted through these BOPs whereas Battalion HQs are maintained for administrative and command purposes.
The project was approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting of the National Economic Council today. It is valued at BDT 2.335 billion (BDT 233.53 crores). The Public Security Division of the Home Ministry has taken up the project titled ‘Construction of 73 BGB Composite / Modern Border Observation Post (BOP) in Border Areas’.
