Bangladesh Coast Guard to get 12 helicopters and UAVs

The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) is being expanded rapidly to ensure protection of coastal and riverine areas of Bangladesh. The force is on a fast track to procure advanced equipment including establishment of an aviation wing for the first time.

The aviation wing will include an aviation operations base as well as purchase of 6 helicopters and 6 UAVs between years 2020-2025.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard are familiar with Italian equipment and established good working relations with Leonardo since procurement of four Offshore Patrol Vessels from the Italian Navy.

A presentation has been made by Leonardo for various types of helicopters tailored to meet the requirements.

Leonardo has already delivered four AW139 maritime search and rescue configured helicopters to the Bangladesh Air Force. Trained pilots and rescue divers are there to respond to any emergencies in coastal areas thanks to the maritime search and rescue squadron.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has the option to purchase AW139, AW169 or AW189. Bangladesh Coast Guard intends to operate at least a dozen helicopters.
