Unfortunately for Bangladesh, the Rampal power station being built by India uses outdated technology.

These definitions regarding steam generation were found in a report on coal production in China investigated by the Center for American Progress.

Subcritical – up to 705 °F (374 °C) and 3,208 psi (221.2 bar) (the critical point of water)
Supercritical – up to the 1,000–1,050 °F (538–566 °C); turbine speed increases dramatically, requires advanced materials
Ultra-supercritical – up to 1,400 °F (760 °C) and pressure levels of 5,000 psi (340 bar) (additional innovations, not specified, would allow even more efficiency) India's first USC coal plant commissioned Sep 2019 runs at 600 °C and pressure of 270 kg/cm2 (264.8 bar) and 41.5% generation efficiency or 3.3% more than existing conventional fleet.

The above concerns are further compounded by the proposed technological and risk management plans. The plant at Rampal is set to use outdated supercritical (SC) technology, which skips the water-boiling phase of conventional coal-fired generation but has since been superseded by the more modern and efficient “ultra-supercritical” (USC). Contrary to the claims of the Bangladeshi government, this is bound to produce high levels of carbon dioxide and waste-water discharges. It is also likely that Rampal will in fact be run using poor quality coal imported from India, which spits out lots of ash without creating much energy.

    What's new ? It's almost predictable now.

India is trying it's level best to try and stun Bangladesh's growth. This time they're trying to destroy the biodiversity of Bangladesh by building a powerplant right next to Sunderbans and as you have pointed out an outdated powerplant.

That is some "husband-wife" relationship we have with them.

Myanmar to court-martial more troops over Rohingya crackdown, army says

    Published: 21 Feb 2020 08:40 PM BdST Updated: 21 Feb 2020 10:37 PM BdST

Myanmar's army said in a statement on Friday it would hold more court-martials over alleged abuses against Rohingya Muslims, after a government-appointed commission said soldiers committed war crimes against the minority.

The panel concluded, in a report published in January, that members of the security forces, among "multiple actors", were responsible for war crimes and serious human rights violations during a military-led crackdown against the group in 2017.

The army said in a post on its website on Friday it had studied the panel's report in great detail and was reviewing allegations.

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya fled to neighbouring Bangladesh to escape an army offensive launched in August 2017 that UN investigators described as having been executed with genocidal intent.

The country is facing genocide charges at the International Court of Justice in the Hague, after Gambia, a mainly Muslim West African state, lodged a lawsuit last year.

Myanmar says the army was fighting a legitimate counter-insurgency campaign against militants who attacked security posts.

The government-appointed panel blamed Rohingya militants for attacking 30 police posts and "provoking" the crackdown, which it said did not amount to genocide.

The army said it was investigating alleged abuses in two villages: Maung Nu, where residents told the panel as many as 200 Muslims were killed after taking shelter in a single house, and Chut Pyin, where dozens more are alleged to have died.

"The Court of Inquiry will investigate such incidents and the trial of Court-Martial will be followed in accordance with the law and in line with the processes of Military Justice," the army statement said.

Two military spokesmen rejected several phone calls from Reuters on Friday seeking further comment.

    'BODIES PULLED APART'

Residents of Maung Nu told government-appointed investigators that soldiers besieged the village after militants attacked a nearby security post and stormed a house where many villagers were sheltering, killing as many as 200.

In Chut Pyin, residents said soldiers surrounded the village, used rocket launchers to set fire to houses and shot indiscriminately, killing scores, according to the January report.

Troops told locals, who allegedly participated in the destruction, to "systematically destroy the bodies" afterwards, one Buddhist resident told the government-backed panel.

"There were so many corpses in Chut Pyin village that when they were burnt, not all could be burnt down to ashes; some were buried, and some dead bodies were pulled apart by wild animals," the resident was quoted as saying.

The army said in its statement it was still reviewing other incidents mentioned in the report by the government-appointed panel, which include an alleged massacre of Hindus by Rohingya militants calling themselves the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, which the group denies.

Myanmar has vowed to carry out its own investigations, saying international justice mechanisms violate its sovereignty.

The army began a trial in November of soldiers and officers from a regiment deployed to Gu Dar Pyin village, the site of another alleged massacre.

A statement on that trial will be released "in the near future", the military said on Friday.

Seven soldiers jailed for 10 years for killing 10 Rohingya men and boys in the village of Inn Din were granted early release last November, after serving less than a year in prison.

Oh another dog and pony show 😂

  3. Ahhh Americans! Trying to talk out of their rear ends again without even knowing where the countries they're criticizing are located.

It's interesting that they're so keen on making it known that religious persecution isn't right yet one look at their list of allies would reveal it for what it is : empty talk.

However, the true blame lies with those bloggers who deliberately make blasphemous posts in order to coax a reaction from the religious hard liners. Priya Saha is another one. These asylum seekers are traitors and adequate legal action should be takes against them.

And as for the Americans, we don't need to do anything. Their general population has zero knowledge of geography (besides that of the state they're in), let alone international geopolitics. Suddenly it's not a surprise that this is a country where they elected a person like Trump!

I heard Chittagong is getting an elevated expressway. Has construction started yet or is it just in planning stages?

Construction had begun last year but as far as I know the project hit a snag after the construction of the pillars. The port authority had some concerns regarding security 🤷‍♂️and the project has been put on hold and most probably the design will be altered. Whether the project will finish by 2023 remains to be seen but I cant really complain much as when its eventually completed it'll make traveling a lot easier, not to mention the seamless transportation of goods to the port.

  5. This project will truly transform Chittagong.

The Karnaphuli river nearly bisects Chittagong in half. Almost everything happens on the west side of the river but this tunnel will allow for greater connectivity with the East side, which is currently relatively underdeveloped and lot of the land is yet to be utilised.

Now if we can get a metro for Chittagong city that would be a dream come true for the many of the city dwellers.

  6. That photograph has been edited to make it look better than it actually is and it's from an angle that hides the real beauty of Chittagong🤪 but IMO as the financial hub of Bangladesh Chittagong needs to be built up alot more. Dhaka is beyond repair but maybe we could build Chittagong to be the new image of a emergent Bangladesh.

That said the Khulshi and Foy'slake areas are pretty clean and comparable to Dhaka's Gulshan. Not to mention the natural beauty of bhatiary etc.

India wants to sell defence equipment to Bangladesh

India on Wednesday launched a promotional activity for selling defence equipment to Bangladesh.
‘India and Bangladesh have close cooperation in many diverse areas and therefore are natural partners to pursue further cooperation in the field of defence technologies,’ Indian high commissioner Riva Ganguly Das said at a seminar on Indian defence equipment in Dhaka.
Representatives from twelve different Indian firms participated in the seminar organised by High Commission of India, according to a press release.
Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, who was chief guest at the seminar, said the seminar provided an opportunity for defence manufacturers from India in developing fruitful partnerships with them [in Bangladesh].
The seminar was held as a part of Indian efforts to export defence equipment to Bangladesh initially under a line of credit extended by India, officials said.
Senior military and civil officials participated in the seminar held two weeks before an official visit of Indian foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and four weeks before an official visit of Indian prime minister Narendra Modi.
Shringla is scheduled to visit Dhaka on March 2 to set grounds for an official visit of the Indian prime minister scheduled for March 16 to 18.
Indian external affairs minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar requested Bangladesh to utilise a line of credit extended by India for purchasing military equipment, in a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart AK Abdul Momen on August 20 in Dhaka.
‘They requested [us] to use the memorandum of understanding signed on $500 million line of credit extended by India [to Bangladesh] for defence purchase,’ Momen told journalists at his office after the meeting.
‘We are yet to buy anything under the defence MoU,’ Momen said, adding that the Armed Forces Division was working on the matter.
The MoU was signed during prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India in April 2017 on the $500 million Indian loan for buying military equipment under suppliers credit system.

No need! They don't have anything to offer that we could want and the things they do have that we could probably want, they won't sell so no need.

Even if all that manpower is acquired, they need to act responsibly and not endorse bribery and ferrying of drugs across the border. Regardless of reports, it's apparent that without the help of the BGB, this much drugs and other stuff won't come through the border. More technology will help decrease the gap in manpower the BGB has.

The Myanmar border forces and army themselves facilitate drug trade as side income as their salaries are just pathetic.

Until the border with Myanmar and India is completely sealed shut with 24/7 monitoring we will not be able to stop the flow of drugs into the country.

Drugs are indirectly destroying our country by poisoning our youth and rendering them useless. Drug addicts are incompatible with a country that's trying it's best to move in the right direction.

  9. As sad as it is the truth must be told; BAF is indeed incompetent. They are looking to fly attack helicopters when they can't ensure our airspace remains defended which is their primary task.

BA & BN should look to operate their own air wings to some extent, as BAF already has too much on their plate or atleast that's what it seems like looking at the way they're going about their duties.

The shameless lady hitler Suchi is disgustingly anti Muslim , liar and supporting whole heartedly the barbaric act of genocide committed by the regime against her own Muslim Rohingyas. Some says during her student life she was ditched by her then Pakistani Muslim boy friend !! Since then she is suffering islamophobia. What a b***h , alas on my child hood she was an inspiration of democracy but turnout to be a monster ! So far no action by the UN

When it isn't white Christians dying the UN and the world is slow to take action.

  11. In my opinion, the government needs to focus on Chittagong alot more in the coming years. As we are an export based economy Chittagong is at the forefront of all things that move in and out of the country.

Being from Chittagong, I can tell you that the roads are quite poor compared to central Dhaka and the Airport is just filthy. A few new highways and roads wont change much until the government shifts its focus onto actually developing the port city. Many roads are full of potholes and the traffic jams don't help either. Seeing as Dhaka is getting their own metro rail, Its only logical for the government to do something similar for Chittagong.

Ara chittagong ot naya airport, road, bridge, flyover laybo.... ar duae tinne boro tower bandile beshi bala oybo shorkar er hase ebe arar onurod.

  12. It's always the Indians crying foul after being given a dose of their own medicine. The Indians are well known to abuse and use cuss words against other subcontinental teams, look no further than yesterday's 2nd innings when they were bowling. Pathetic uncultured crybabies.
