Administrators Maisson Posted February 22, 2020 Administrators Share Posted February 22, 2020 UNDP launches UN Bangla font Friday Independent Online/UNB United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bangladesh on Friday celebrated the International Mother Language Day by launching the UN Bangla font and Bangla version of the Human Development Report 2019. Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen attended the function as the chief guest. Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator & Director Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific Kanni Wignaraja was present as special guest. The Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate disclosed the information through a press release on Saturday. Bangladesh regained the position by sending a 160-member Quick Reaction Force in the Central African Republic on July 17, it said. A total of 6,731 Bangladeshis are now employed in different peacekeeping missions of the United Nations. Bangladesh is followed by Ethiopia with 6,662 peacekeepers. The peacekeepers, members of BANFPU-1 (Rotation 14), are very proud to have the responsibility as it is a UN-run important facility, says a press release sent by Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of Police Headquarters. Merina Akter, commander of the rotation, said "We are carrying out duties not only in our country but also in foreign lands with dignity and pride under the flag of the United Nations." Terming the task of ensuring security at the airport a big challenge, she wished to be successful this time as well. "We are working tirelessly to maintain peace in Congo in line with the UN mandate," the press release quoted Merina as saying.
