  1. The thing is government has given so many benefits to them showing humanitarian reason which encouraged them to demand for even Bangladeshi land for their use (Agartala airport case). And the Bangladeshi people never showed any protest against them except some social media posts which has almost value in real life.
  2. These Indians are disgusting. If they need to erect a meshed steel fences, why not do it inside their territory keeping 150 yards from the border?
  3. India Willing to Share All Military Hardware It Makes With Bangladesh, Says Foreign Secretary Shringla Addressing a seminar at the Bangladesh Institute for International Studies (BIISS), Harshvardhan Shringla said Bangladesh has become India's largest development partner in the world and India's largest trade partner in the region. India is ready to share with Bangladesh any military hardware being manufactured in the country for India's defence forces, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said on Monday as he underlined the potential for robust defence cooperation between the two neighbours. Addressing a seminar at the Bangladesh Institute for International Studies (BIISS) here, Shringla said Bangladesh has become India's largest development partner in the world and India's largest trade partner in the region. Over 75 separate dialogue mechanisms connect our Governments and people in an effort to build the strongest possible framework for a permanent partnership. Shringla, a former Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, is in Bangladesh on his first visit to the country. He said Indo-Bangladesh partnership will reach its true potential when the two sides equally recognise that their interests converge and there is a mutuality of benefit. "This is why we believe that our ongoing efforts to develop a robust partnership between our militaries emphasises trust of a high order. Especially since we are willing to share with you any and all military hardware being manufactured in India for use by our military, the top Indian diplomat said amidst China making efforts to sell weapons, including submarines, to Bangladesh. Shringla said India also welcomes the opportunity for Indian officers to train at premier military institutions of Bangladesh, just as the Indian side is ready to open military training institutes at all levels from officer cadet training to specialised higher command training to Bangladesh.
  4. If this project is done under PPP then the highway is supposed to be a toll road. That would increase the fare and impose a burden on the travelers. I think the regular highways should be toll-free and separate expressways can be constructed with which should be access-controlled.

  7. Biman Bangladesh looks to add freighters 737s could be the entry point to freighters for Biman Bangladesh Airlines. (Photo: Boeing) Biman Bangladesh Airlines has plans to add freighters to its fleet to satisfy “huge demand” from local traders, Md Mokabbir Hossain, the carrier’s managing director and CEO, told Dhaka-based outlet New Age. Biman’s long-term strategy sees the airline growing its fleet to a total of fifty aircraft by 2030. The carrier currently only has a fleet of eighteen passenger aircraft, including ten widebodies in the form of four 777-300ERs, four 787-8s and two 787-9s. No additional details were given by Biman, except that the freighter aircraft would be used to connect Southeast Asia with the Middle East and beyond, via Dhaka (DAC). Narrowbody conversions could be the carrier’s entry point to freighters. In particular, Biman has two 737-800s (28648 and 28653) leased from GECAS that are approximately nineteen years old. According to Mokabbir Hossain, the leases for those two aircraft are expiring “soon.” Given the suitability of these 737-800s as conversion candidates, GECAS could convert them into freighter configuration and lease them back to Biman. Of course, Biman could also opt for less expensive 737 Classic conversions. Bangladesh is already home to one freighter operator; Sky Capital Cargo, which has one 737-200F (24197) and two Fokker 50s, flies a number of domestic routes and has plans to expand to Kunming (KMG) and Guangzhou (CAN), according to its website
  8. India wants to sell defence equipment to Bangladesh India on Wednesday launched a promotional activity for selling defence equipment to Bangladesh. ‘India and Bangladesh have close cooperation in many diverse areas and therefore are natural partners to pursue further cooperation in the field of defence technologies,’ Indian high commissioner Riva Ganguly Das said at a seminar on Indian defence equipment in Dhaka. Representatives from twelve different Indian firms participated in the seminar organised by High Commission of India, according to a press release. Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, who was chief guest at the seminar, said the seminar provided an opportunity for defence manufacturers from India in developing fruitful partnerships with them [in Bangladesh]. The seminar was held as a part of Indian efforts to export defence equipment to Bangladesh initially under a line of credit extended by India, officials said. Senior military and civil officials participated in the seminar held two weeks before an official visit of Indian foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and four weeks before an official visit of Indian prime minister Narendra Modi. Shringla is scheduled to visit Dhaka on March 2 to set grounds for an official visit of the Indian prime minister scheduled for March 16 to 18. Indian external affairs minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar requested Bangladesh to utilise a line of credit extended by India for purchasing military equipment, in a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart AK Abdul Momen on August 20 in Dhaka. ‘They requested [us] to use the memorandum of understanding signed on $500 million line of credit extended by India [to Bangladesh] for defence purchase,’ Momen told journalists at his office after the meeting. ‘We are yet to buy anything under the defence MoU,’ Momen said, adding that the Armed Forces Division was working on the matter. The MoU was signed during prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India in April 2017 on the $500 million Indian loan for buying military equipment under suppliers credit system.
  9. State Minister for Public Works visits Bangabandhu Tri-tower project in Purbachal State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed on Wednesday visited the Bangabandhu Tri-Tower Project site at Purbachal new town area to see the progress of the scheme. During the visit, officials of the consortium of local PowerPac Holdings and Japanese firm Kajima Corporation briefed him about the project’s progress, said a press release of the consortium. During the visit, Housing and Public Works Secretary Shahidullah Khandaker and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha Chairman Syed Nur Alam accompanied the state minister while Syed Qamrul Islam, Chief Operating Officer and Director (Operations) of Consortium of PowerPac Holdings and Kajima Corporation briefed him. The consortium got the allotment of a total of 114 acres of land in Sector-19 of Purbachal New Township Project from Rajuk, the development authority of capital Dhaka, to build the new commercial hub through an open auction in 2018. The commercial township named ‘Central Business District’ (CBD) will be constructed on over 100 acres of land in the next seven years. It will have a total of 49 skyscrapers, including a 473-metre tall 111-storey iconic Legacy Tower, 71-storey Liberty Tower and 52-storey Language Tower to accommodate business houses in a total space of about 38.441 million square feet (sft). The three towers were named as Bangabandhu Tri-tower. Of the other skyscrapers, each will have a height equivalent to a 40-storey building, the sources said, adding that a large convention centre was also included in the development plan. During the briefing, the PowerPac officials said the project will have an investment of Tk 96,000 crore. Soon after receiving the allotment of the project, PowerPac officials said, they signed a contract with Chinese firm – Power China International Group Ltd – to appoint it as the construction contractor while world’s seventh largest architect company South Korean Heerim Architect and Planners Co Ltd was engaged as the project architect. French firm Archetype Construction Holdings Ltd was engaged for construction and project management while Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) for soil test mobilisation and Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC) for traffic impact assessment (TIA) and environmental impact assessment (EIA), they said.
  10. They use waterway upto Baghabari depot in Sirajganj. Waterway further north is not navigable.
  11. Did you read the part It takes only $2.2 per barrel from the Middle East to the outer anchorage of Chittagong Sea-Port and $4.4 to deliver the fuel to the Dinajpur storage tank? Now, it takes $4.4 because we transport these oil via road using lorries. But if we make a pipeline via same route, I am sure it will come down to less than $5.5. And Bangladesh should not depend on India for something so sensitive like fuel after what they did with Nepal. Using sea route will give us multiple options but this pipeline gives us only Indian option. So I can not say anything in this forum now? If no discussion is encouraged what is the point of this forum?
  12. It takes only $2.2 per barrel from the Middle East to the outer anchorage of Chittagong Sea-Port but these Indians will be taking $5.5 per barrel to supply it from Siliguri to Parbatipur? Why are we even accepting this? Wouldn't it be better if we would make a pipeline from Chittagong to Parbatipur and continue importing from Middle East? Cost should have been much lower than $5.5 per barrel.
  13. Biman makes Tk 423 cr profit this year: Mahbub tells in JS State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali today said the Biman Bangladesh Airlines has made a profit of Taka 423 crore in six months in the current fiscal year. “Biman has made a profit of Taka 423 crore in the last six months from July to December 2019,” he said while responding to a starred question made by treasury bench lawmaker Abul Kalam Azad of Jamalpur-1 in the House here. In 2018-2019, the national flag carrier earned a net profit of Taka 217.80 crore, said the state minister, adding that the total earning during this period was Taka 5,795 crore and the expenditure was Taka 5,777.10 crore. Regarding the corruption, he said the administration of Biman Bangladesh Airlines has already been reshuffled, keeping a target to curb corruption and expenditure of the national airlines. So, the corruption of Biman has been reduced drastically, he added. At present, Mahbub Ali said the ticket selling and seat booking of the national airlines has already been opened for the public with the launching of a mobile app named ‘Biman Airlines’. Bangladesh Biman is now operating 18 aircrafts to 17 international destinations in 12 countries and 7 stations under the domestic route.
  14. Now you are taking things to the personal level. I said it is not their domain, buy that does not mean navu cannot operate them. And I hope you understand that we are not any US, China, UK, France or Japan. If think these AF are incompetent, there is no point continuing the discussion with you. Finding source for BD Defence matter is hard. But I can assure you I read the news about combat aircraft procurement in a national daily (most probably Prothom Alo). I will try to fond it. Finally, as you are in so attacking mode I think its better not to continue this discussion with you. Lets agree to disagree.
  15. And what about the ships we already have? Why won't they use the potential of those vessels? Yes, is raising. And nobody knows when that will happen.
  16. As for navy, they are going after ASW helis when they have an almost non-existent MSAR squadron is even hilarious. More funny is they are trying to get MH_60 which can not land on any naval ships helipad as it is so big. I don't know if they are planning to do all the ASW operations from shore or what
  17. It seems I misunderstood. Sorry if I hurt you. Like ships or subs, aircraft is not navy's domain. So, this argument is invalid. By maintain, I meant operate. Incompetence is there in every force. Calling only BAF doesnot help the cause. Army always had influence over the govt which helps them to get what they want. Navy is getting special priority from the government due to the blue economy and 2008 skirmish. But AF was always left behind. They even suffered more during the time of military rulers. During 2013-14 they tried to get 8 Su-27/Mig-29SMT using US$ 1b credit from Russia but army got involved resulting BAF to get only YAk-130 due to fund shortage. By 2017, BAF was all in for Su-30 and released that infamous tender. If Rohinga problem did not occur, they would have at least 12 Su-30 by now. But that incident changed everything and AF again fall behind as there was a policy shift and they had to re-evaluate and re-negotiate. I am not saying BAF has no blame in the process but they are not the only one to blame. I believe you do not think Israel, Singapore or South Korea Air Force incompetent?
  18. Coast Guard to get chopper, ships: home minister Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan said on Saturday that state-of-art ships, hovercrafts, drones, maritime patrol aircrafts and choppers would be given to the Bangladesh Coast Guard in near future. ‘The current government has taken various initiatives to make the Bangladesh Coast Guard stronger gradually,’ the home minister told a programme at Coast Guard’s Agargaon headquarters marking the 25th rising day of the force. ‘At the same time, the coastal surveillance system will be installed to bring the long coastal belt under monitoring,’ said the minister. Mostafa Kamal Uddin, the senior secretary of public security division of home affairs ministry, and Rear Admiral M Ashraful Haq, the director general of BCG, were present at the programme along with the senior civil and military officials, according to a press release. The minister praised the roles of the coast guard members in protecting the coastal people and maintaining law and order. BCG chief Ashraful Haq said that the force had brought the lifting and robbery along the Chattogram port to an end. . The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia, which popularly known as ReCAAP, has recognised the report, he added. The minister later distributed Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal, President Coast Guard Medal, Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal (service) and President Coast Guard Medal (service) among 40 officials and rankers.
  19. What's wrong with AF having them? I am not talking about giving Apaches to navy. The thing I wanted to say is AF will get priority to buy aircraft over any other force. And don't think any other force will do better than AF in maintaining aircraft. You can see the blunder army made when they bought Eurocopters. Also see the ASW helicopter tender by navy. It was designed in a way that only AW-159 could meet the requirements allowing them to ask higher price. Also how many aircraft navy bought all these years? The Dornier and AW-109 purchase was also managed by AF officials. So, may be buying and maintaining aircraft is not as easy as you are saying? And BA have primary trainers since long in the form of Cessna-152. Most of the air force in the world operates attack helis. So, it is nothing new.
  20. So you guys think 32+ EFT, 2-4 subs, LR GMLRS, ToT for SRBM & LACM all possible in next years budget? You should consider the current scenario of government funds. Revenue collection has taken a major heat this year and also the foreign donors are slowing the fund release creating a high pressure on govt fund and as a result shrinking the govt expenditure. This must have an impact in next years budget.
