  1. The new terminal is more for show than anything else, the rest of the Dhaka airport is in a sorry state and some African airports look cleaner and more well designed. They should prohibit family members of passengers from pooling outside the airport gates, this is especially true for Chittagong's airport. Just outside the entrance to the airport there's 3000 people at any given time sticking to the steel barricade looking at people going in and going out. Surely it creeps foreigners out.
  2. You mean purbachal? It's apparently the new smart city designed to reduce Dhaka's congestion. I see some Pakistanis running around shouting Lahore is safer than Dhaka. Funny I never saw car bombs in Dhaka, cars burnt down to the metal frame.
  3. Their air force is very capable of crippling Cox bazaar, for now. We've got to hurry up with that Mrca procurement.
  4. It's an automatic process, you'll be verified after the 11th post.
  5. While I agree I must add that they need more equipment and training. In a country as densely populated as Bangladesh, we need well trained, well equipped fire service so that we can keep dangerous incidents in check. A simple fire in the slums has the potential to kill thousands in Bangladesh and the only way we can prevent this is through a efficient and effective fire service.
  6. Just make 10 posts (relevant ones) in regular threads that don't require verification and you'll be verified in no time.
  7. Welcome, as a pdf lurker, I found myself agreeing with your opinions all the time.
  8. They will get better with time and they aren't half anyway to be honest. Once the phones are given native Bangla support we can start getting to older generation or low income people who don't understand English. More smartphones means more information on hand for people who need it. Especially farmers can be helped alot through this kind of technology.
  9. Nope, Symphony mobile is Bangladeshi and headquartered in Dhaka.
  10. Yes and Walton is also exporting laptops to African countries. A step in the right direction.
  11. Rapid Action Battalion Rapid Action Battalion or RAB, is an elite anti-crime and anti-terrorism unit of the Bangladesh Police. It consists of members of the Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, Border Guard Bangladesh and Bangladesh Ansar. It was formed on 26 March 2004 as RAT (Rapid Action Team), and commenced operations on 14 April 2004. The Rapid Action Battalion has been criticized by rights groups for its use of extrajudicial killings and is accused of forced disappearances. The force has also been involved in several high-profile crimes, including murder. Although rights group have described it as a "death squad," the US government officials in Bangladesh describe it as an "organization best positioned to one day become a Bangladeshi version of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation." History Rapid Action Battalion was formed on 12 July 2003 under the Armed Police Battalion (Amendment) Act, 2003. The act was passed through the amendment of Armed Forces Battalion Ordinance 1979. Each battalion of Rapid Action Battalion is commanded by Additional Deputy Inspector General rank officer or its equivalent in other forces. RAB cannot file cases with courts themselves but must be forward the cases to Bangladesh Police who will file the case with the court. RAB replaced the short lived Rapid Action Team (RAT) which was formed in January 2003. RAB has faced criticism for alleged extrajudicial killings from its formation. In an editorial on 23 July 2004 The Daily Star wrote "reign it in before it turns into a [RABid] monster." From 2004 to 2008 RAB had killed 1062 people. RAB has a media centre in Karwan Bazar. In March 2017, Intelligence Wing chief Lt Col. Abul Kalam Azad was killed in a bomb blast in Sylhet while raiding an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant hideout. RAB has 14 battalion size field units spread all over the country. Among them, 5 are located in the capital Dhaka. Activities Main activities and types of work done by RAB are: Counter-Terrorism RAB apprehended numerous terrorism suspects during the course of their tenure. Anti drugs RAB has been involved in the control of illegal substances such as Ya ba, Phensedyl and Heroin. Emergency help RAB provides immediate response for situations such as armed robbery and kidnappings. National common or annual needs Many national needs are filled by RAB by providing extra duty during Eid-ul-Fitr, Puja, world Ijtema and Akheri Munazat, among other events. They also contribute resources during elections, such as the Narayangonj City Corporation Election. RAB Photos and Images Personally I think despite all their shortfalls and criticism, RAB has managed to curb crime effectively in a country as densely populated as Bangladesh. So much so that the news of RAB arriving stabs criminals with fear. They have also been instrumental in ridding the country of terrorists and fundamentalists.
  12. Pakistan Cricket Board is making a delusional argument, that they will host all home series in Pakistan now and all International Events as well because Pakistan is now "safe". They seem to be of the opinion that If they can some how get Bangladesh to visit them for the longer formats, the Whities will also come. Anyone who reads Pakistani news can see how secure their country is, Blast happened there just a few weeks ago. There is no way England, Australia or New Zealand will come to Pakistan. Even India wont and the upcoming Asia Cup cant be hosted in Pakistan, the situation isn't that stable yet But the PCB keeps on chirping away. Its an accident just waiting to happen, and when it does Pakistani Cricket will be the worst hit.
  13. Thanks for sharing. Parade only held in Delhi or all throughout the country?
  14. Symphony now meets smartphone demand from own plant A new era is dawning in the manufacturing industry as local companies are putting their best foot forward towards building a ‘Made in Bangladesh’ brand. One such brand is Symphony, which is going neck and neck with foreign companies to grab a bigger pie of the smartphone market that was dominated by imports until recently. The company is assembling about 1.5 lakh smartphones every month in its plant in Ashulia on the outskirts of Dhaka and has been meeting all its local demand from the plant since June last year. The factory is also making basic phones at such a pace -- currently 1.25 lakh units a month -- that no imports would be required by the year end, said Jakaria Shahid, managing director of Edison Group, Symphony’s parent company. “We stopped importing smartphones last June and our target is to meet the entire local demand from our plant by December this year.” The plant currently manufactures about seven to eight lakh units of basic and smartphones every month, according to Shahid, also the general secretary of the Bangladesh Mobile Phone Importers Association. In the face of rising demand, the company is working to expand the plant’s capacity and build two more units, he told journalists, who were taken to Ashulia for a tour of the factory. “The two new plants should be ready by 2022 and then we will seek to explore export opportunities.” Symphony, which has a market share of 30 per cent, is splashing out about Tk 100 crore for the three plants. They also have a plan to make mobile accessories, which will go some way towards building a total value chain for mobile assembling. “We will develop software, mobile applications and games as well, while the plants will churn out about two lakh units of accessories.” The factory is now adding 20 per cent value to the products and that will rise to 30 per cent over the next five years. The government offered huge tax benefits for mobile assembling in fiscal 2017-18 after which seven plants were set up in Bangladesh, with another two in the pipeline. Symphony -- which began its journey in 2008, becoming Bangladesh’s first mobile phone brand -- has been leading the market for the last five years but has now shifted focus to handsets in the price range of Tk 4,000 to Tk 8,000. The main demand lies in this segment, Shahid said, while urging the government to assess the market before giving licences for new plants. “The quality of our phones is better than those made in China,” said Md Maksudur Rahman, senior director of business operation at Edison Group. About 3.10 crore handsets were sold in 2019, of which 80 lakh were Symphony’s, said MA Hanif, head of sales. Source This is great news, Our economy needs to diversify and high tech factories are a great way of doing so.
  15. American presidents whoever they maybe are all slaves to lobbying groups and national interest. I never buy anything they say during the election campaign.
  16. Didn't know there more Burmese Muslim groups besides the Rohingya. The only solution for the rohingya is have them repatriated and given a strong foothold in the border regions. It helps to have allies on the other side of the border, no need to arm though.
  17. One could argue the Pakistanis got themselves into the mess knowingly. Indians seem to think ISI empowers terror groups, maybe they do. Maybe they did and it back fired. In any case, the current situation in Pakistan is getting better which is good for the region as a whole.
  18. For strategic reasons we ought to help the secessionists groups in Myanmar, discreetly of course. Remember the Burmese helped the CHT rebels during the 90s. Myanmar as a country is doomed to fail because of multiple ethnicities and tribes or whatever they are. Once Myanmar is out of the equation, BD can finally ease out a bit and start fencing the border with India. It's already happening and it'll only start getting worse, Indians jumping the border to get into Bangladesh to benefit from the economic boom.
